EXCELLENT! ★★★★★

by Anonymous 102 days ago (BARNES&NOBLE)

I have already a Russian course on my iPad - unfortunately it doesn‘t deal with Cyrillic alphabet at all so you can‘t learn to read Russian. This course is ideal for beginners: You learn to read Russian in 10 lessons, step by step. Spelling and pronunciation is explained in a clear and logical way and is easy to follow.

The words in the exercises are useful for common everyday situations and are accompanied by a translation into English, so you can learn a basic vocabulary while practicing. The book also includes the chapter "Everyday Russian" in which you learn how to use the words and phrases from the phonetic exercises in order to master the most common everyday situations in Russian (first contact and formulas of politeness, numbers, asking for directions etc.). Brilliant!

★★★★★ Well structured, excellent for self-study

I bought this book because I wanted to learn how to read Russian in a proper way. I have already another book dealing with the Cyrillic alphabet, but without phonetic exercises and audio. This one is ideal for beginners: you learn to read Russian step by step in 10 lessons. The alphabet is actually completed within 9 lessons and lesson 10 explains further pronunciation rules.
Spelling, pronunciation and intonation are well explained and supplemented by helpful tips and tricks as well as comparisons with English.
All listening and reading exercises (recorded by native speakers) are read out alternately by a female and a male voice. All practice material is accompanied by a translation into English.
